Kitchen Cray: Join the Movement

We had the pleasure of partnering with an super creative personal chef crew in the Washington, D.C. area called Kitchen Cray. We asked Chef James Robinson to help us create a few new options for using mumbo sauce, instead of the standard fried wings and boy did he surprise us.

KD V Mumbo Sauce Tees

A set of mumbo sauce tees, inspired by the Kevin Durant Nike KD V’s, which were inspired by mumbo sauce? Get it? Yeah it’s confusing, so let me explain.

We have always wanted to design a set of mumbo sauce t-shirts, but could never find the time or the inspiration. Initially we considered created a shirt using our own logo, but that’s too easy.

What is Mumbo Sauce?

Yes you will hear this question frequently, especially with the rise in popularity of the Kevin Durant KD V’s inspired by mumbo sauce. So what is it exactly? Well for those of you who are not on the East Coast, it’s wings sauce originating from the Washington, DC area in the late 50′s-60′s.

Mumbo sauce is sticky, sweet, tangy with a bit of zest and goes great with fried food, particularly fried chicken wings.

How is it used?

It’s a condiment comparable to ketchup. It’s used as a topping, dipping sauce. Most people who eat mumbo sauce add it to their after the food has been cooked but I suppose it can be added before. It can be drizzled, dipped, smothered, covered or drenched!

What does it taste like?

The closest tasting product that’s currently on the market is Chick-Filas Polynesian sauce. Aside from the additives, the ingredients are almost the same.

What mumbo sauce isn’t

Consumers will always have differing opinions of what mumbo sauce is, should look like or taste like. There are even arguments on who has the best sauce. But theirs one thing we can all agree on – is that mumbo sauce is most certainly NOT a BBQ sauce.
